Bowlby accepted there could be many attachment persons whilst claiming that the mother was the primary carer.
Furthermore, communication now became goal orientated rather than instinct based. Communication both ways included smiling, eye contact, calling and crying, touching, cuddling clinging and searching. Even the child might move away as a strategy to gain its attachment person coming to it.
