Life Art

This is a painting inspired by the artistry of Sarah Small's music and display Tableau Vivant of The Delirium Constructions (Reminder: Full frontal and exposed.)

Three Brought Together was completed on May 10th 2018 in acrylic and touches of white gouache on a larger canvas. The image is 1600 by 1200 and is shown much reduced. Continue to scroll down to see the painting process.

Painting Process

(Tableau Vivant of The Delirium Constructions 2010 and 2011) Three Brought Together was under construction in May 2018 in acrylic on a larger canvas.

The final stage above, to produce the completed product, is when the footbridge, tree leaves and branches are put over the black and where the models are subject to form and correction via shades of flesh and a grey-blue shadow colour. There is a distant white-silver central light area - also over the black. This stage ends with 'fiddling' with detail with much viewing and even checking the appearance by camera and computer. However, after hanging on my wall, I made several revisions.

Stage 1 below starts with the drawing and the initial underpainting. The black (not pure - added orange) is for likely grass and tree background depth, and blue is negative to the flesh to come. Image is 1200 by 900 and shown half size.

Stage 2 shows flesh painting. At this stage detail is lost. Image is 1600 by 1200 and shown much reduced.

Stage 3 involves colour 'felt tips' redrawing and painting with some detail in mine, looking for shape and structure. Some colours are known to leak through, as in light blue and green, whereas others tint the acrylic paint. Image is 1600 by 1200 and shown much reduced.

Once again, the fourth and final stage below, and revised, shown in 1600 by 1200 of the image.
